The department of Film, Television and Journalism in the Faculty of Animation, Arts and Design seeks a cinematography/videography/camera department specialist to serve as a visionary and dedicated educator within its Film and Media programs. The candidate must have extensive and contemporary creative and technical experience working various roles on professional production sets for the camera/lighting department.
The incumbent must also have a demonstrable record of excellence in classroom teaching and curriculum development. The incumbent creates engaging learning environments that engender growth and development in practical and theoretical filmmaking environments. The successful candidate must be enough of a generalist to be able to support student learning across a broad range of creative film and television production activities – from introductory efforts at minor screen projects in early or exploratory years through to capstone ‘thesis’ films for senior degree-level students. A strong history of successful pedagogical support of learning diversity is a foundational requirement.
In keeping with the Faculty’s commitment to studio-based education, the incumbent must demonstrate a history of successful creative practice and innovation in both their professional work and teaching. The successful candidate must have high technical skills with digital cinema cameras and professional production practices for the camera and lighting department, as well as proven expertise teaching the foundational optical and cinematographic theories that informs the craft.
Specific Responsibilities:
•Ensuring that program and course curricula are current, relevant and reflective of best practices within the relevant professional/program disciplines
•Defining, evaluating and validating learning outcomes for courses and programs
•Creating an effective environment for applied learning which accommodates students’ diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences and learning styles
•Designing appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and assessing student learning that are invitational and reflective of best practices in teaching and learning
•Developing appropriate strategies and tools to assess student performance that are consistent with the learning outcomes of the course and address multiple learning styles
•Developing multi-media materials and alternative delivery strategies, and incorporating appropriate educational technologies into the applied learning process

•A Master’s Degree in studies related to media arts, education or an associated field
•A minimum of 10 years’ relevant professional camera and lighting department technical experience in the film and television sector, preferably operating at a senior level role /functions (such as director of photography, cinematographer, or senior camera department roles) and/or on large scale professional productions.
•A minimum of 3 years’ experience teaching and curriculum development for adult learners
•Demonstrated capacity for teaching in both theoretical and creative learning environments
•Strong network of contacts, certifications and/or memberships within organizations & employers relevant to the film/television industry
•Excellent communications and interpersonal skills
•Ability to convey the conceptual and applied aspects of knowledge to a broad range of students
•Committed to excellence in teaching and learning and to working within a team environment
