Note: As of April 2020 this position will permanently relocate to the Newnham Campus

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chair - School of Marketing, the Professor will be responsible for providing academic leadership in the classroom and within the School of Marketing, ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.

Program Area/Level:

Responsible for teaching Creative Advertising and Marketing Communications subjects at all levels of the diploma and graduate certificate program including (but not limited to) introductory and advanced courses in Copywriting, Visual Communication, Presentation Skills, Consumer Insight & Persuasion, Content Advertising, and Communications.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the senior academic officer of the College or designate, the Professor is responsible for:

Teaching:

• Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques.
• Carrying out regularly scheduled instruction, which may include tutoring and academic counselling of students.
• Providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources, work experience and field trips.
• Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student's work within assigned courses.

Course and Curriculum Development:

• Consulting with program and course directors and other faculty members, advisory committees, accrediting agencies, potential employers and students.
• Defining course objectives and evaluating and validating these objectives.
• Specifying or approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc.
• Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations where applicable.
• Selecting or approving textbooks and learning materials.

Academic Leadership:

• Providing guidance to Instructors relative to the Instructors' teaching assignments.
• Participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees as requested.

Qualifications:

Education


• A completed bachelor’s degree in Advertising, Marketing or Business is required. If education is in another field of study, please state how it is related.

Experience

• Minimum two (2) years’ teaching experience at the post-secondary or professional development level is preferred.
• Minimum eight (8) years’ industry experience in Advertising industry (agency or in-house), working at senior level (Art Director/Copywriter/Creative Director) is required.

Skills

• An established network of industry professionals that can enhance the learning experience of students through joint projects.
• Excellent presentation, communication and human relation skills to interact effectively with the College’s multi-cultural student and staff population, and has an understanding of and commitment to equity in education.
• Demonstrated leadership, computer, and organizational skills, motivation and a willingness to innovate and apply new teaching techniques and technologies are also required.
• Experience in diverse advertising issues, such as creative strategy, concept development, creative execution and presentation preferred.
• Experience in planning/development of creative communication, creative strategy and brand strategy
• Demonstrated computer, and organizational skills, and a willingness to innovate and apply new teaching techniques and technologies
