Position Summary:
Reporting to the Program Manager, Academic, the professor is responsible for developing, preparing, and delivering courses within the English Language Institute, ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.

Program Area/Level:
Responsible for teaching courses within the English Language Institute, such as ELI104-804, ELI105-505, ELI 921-923, ELI950, ELI317, and ELI321.

Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the senior academic officer of Seneca or designate, the Professor is responsible for:

Teaching:
Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques.
Carrying out regularly scheduled instruction, which may include tutoring and academic counselling of students.
Providing a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources, work experience and field trips.
Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student's work within assigned courses.
Mentoring TESL students and providing opportunities for TESL students to complete observations and practice teaching.
Course and Curriculum Development:
Consulting with program and course directors and other faculty members, advisory committees, accrediting agencies, potential employers and students.
Defining course objectives, and evaluating and validating these objectives.
Specifying or approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc.
Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations where applicable
Selecting or approving textbooks and learning materials.
Academic Leadership:
Providing guidance to Instructors relative to the Instructors' teaching assignments.
Participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees as requested.
Qualifications:
Education
Minimum completed master’s degree in a related field of study. Please state how your education is related.
Current TESL Ontario, TESL Canada, and/or CELTA certification is required.
Experience
Minimum five (5) years’ recent experience teaching ESL and/or EAP to adults as a TESL/CELTA certified professional in an IEP (Intensive English Program).
Experience teaching students at beginner, intermediate, and advanced levels of English language proficiency is required.
Experience in a variety of English language teaching contexts is preferred (e.g. EAP in a post-secondary environment, Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada (LINC), Occupation Specific Language Training (OSLT), Teaching English as a Foreign Language, and online/hybrid language teaching).
Experience teaching abroad is preferred.
Skills
Demonstrated leadership and contributions to the field of English language teaching
Bilingual/multilingual or demonstrated commitment to the study of a second language.
Experience and demonstrated innovation using educational technology to support language learning.
Ability to convey conceptual and practical aspects of subjects to students, while respecting their diverse backgrounds, experience, and individual learning styles.
Ability and willingness to take on a leadership role, such as coordinator, course lead, etc.
Excellent presentation, communication and human relation skills to interact effectively with the College’s multi-cultural/racial/able staff and student population is required, as is an understanding of and commitment to equity in education.
