Applications are invited for the position of Professor for the Educational Assistant – Special Needs Support program within the School of Community Studies. This position will commence in August 2019 at the Welland Campus.

The two-year EA – SNS program prepares graduates to work in a variety of educational, community, and residential settings with individuals who have varying degrees of special needs. We are seeking an individual who is self-directed yet dedicated to participating effectively as a team member in a student-centered program. A sample of the major teaching assignments may include but not be limited to:

• Numeracy and Literacy Support Strategies
• Professional Roles of the Educational Assistant
• Personal Development for the Workplace
• Professional Reporting for Educational Assistant

The Professor position is responsible for providing academic leadership and developing an effective learning environment for students. This includes designing, revising and updating courses/curriculum; teaching assigned courses; consulting with stakeholders (faculty, community and industry partners); defining course objectives and evaluating student’s comprehension of outcomes; utilizing a variety of instruction medium/resources; and providing individualized instruction where necessary. Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Required Qualifications:
• A 4 year bachelor’s degree in one of the following: Special Education, Education, Developmental Disabilities, Educational Administration, Disability Studies, Science in Special Education
• A minimum of 5 years practical, relevant experience
• Two years previous teaching experience at a post-secondary level / or adult training experience
• Proven ability to work in a team environment and to foster / support the same with their students and colleagues
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse student populations
• Excellent written/oral communication, organizational, problem solving, analytical and teamwork skills Evidence of commitment to student success and academic excellence
• Experience with low and high technology in the community, classroom or school setting

Preferred candidates may also possess:
• A Master’s degree in a related discipline
• Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA)

In accordance with the provisions of the Academic Employees Collective Agreement first consideration shall be given to Internal employees. Internal employees are classified as Full time permanent or Partial Load staff within the Academic Bargaining Unit at the time of posting.
