Humber’s postgraduate program in Journalism is a full year (three term) program that immerses students in advanced research, writing and interview practices, data mining techniques, and a range of story-telling approaches for work within a multi-platform journalistic or information-gathering environment. Students have the opportunity to pursue discipline-specific reporting in areas such as science, business, sports and the arts.

We are seeking a highly skilled and innovative journalism professional, with significant related work experience on multiple platforms: print, online, radio and television. A commitment to teaching innovation, industry partnership and student success is required. Teaching experience is also required.

Reporting to the Associate Dean, the successful candidate will assume responsibility for the coordination of the program as well as teach in this program, and potentially the Journalism diploma and degree programs. The incumbent will also develop curriculum, design/revise specific courses, create an effective and innovative learning environment for our students, assess student progress and achievement; work collaboratively with colleagues, participate in committees and related associations. The incumbent will also support student advising, student recruitment, graduate placement, assist with the promotion and marketing of programs and develop and maintain strong industry ties.

Duration: The Program Coordinator component for this position is a three (3) year term assignment.


The successful candidate will have a minimum of a Master’s degree in a related field, as well as previous teaching and curriculum development experience within a post-secondary institution. In addition, the successful candidate will have significant experience in the journalism industry, preferably in broadcasting, and a demonstrated ability to teach a number of courses offered by the Journalism programs at the college.

In addition, the successful candidate will have engaging and effective teaching skills, demonstrated ability to coach and support students, demonstrated experience managing classroom dynamics, strong knowledge and application of current pedagogical principles, a student focused approach and a demonstrated commitment to fostering innovation and positive change. The successful candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to and knowledge of principles of equity and inclusion, be a collaborative team player and be committed to a positive team culture. The successful candidate will possess well developed interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills and have demonstrated ability to contribute positively to curriculum development and delivery.
