What This Position is About:
As a key member of the School of Justice and Community Development, you will play a pivotal role by
• Contributing to cross college and program discussions to support student success
• Teaching a variety of courses in the justice programs in addition to designing, revising, and updating curriculum
• Ensuring a strong foundation for success in the students chosen field
• Providing academic leadership within teaching teams to ensure consistent delivery of assigned courses
• Working in collaboration with the first semester program coordinator and justice team to instill academic excellence, foster a positive learning environment and encourage student retention.

What We Are Looking For:
Do you have a passion for teaching and learning? Have you designed and facilitated curriculum focused on integrated learning opportunities that inspire students to develop and expand their skills? Do you excel in creating a positive learning environment that is adaptive, flexible, and focused on learning success with proven adaptability for diverse learners? Have you created a learning environment that motivates and encourages a variety of learners, using various teaching methodologies and types of delivery including face to face lectures, seminars, labs and eLearning?

With a minimum of a relevant Bachelors degree in a related field including Law, Justice Studies, Sociology, Political Science, Criminology/Police Sciences, you also have a minimum of 5 years of recent teaching experience within Justice Studies programs at the post secondary level, all of which have been within the last 7 years.

You actively research and keep abreast of current legal trends and topics in the law and justice sector. Additionally, you have demonstrated applied research experience which could include involvement with:
• Specific experience teaching courses with articulated research focus
• Involvement in applied research projects as a team member
• Leading an applied research project
• Embedding applied research in curricula through student projects

Any of the following are strong assets:
• Masters degree in one of the above disciplines
• Experience working in the field of law, justice or community development, with a diverse client group.
• Experience implementing the principles of Universal Design for Learning and supporting a professional learning environment that prioritizes safety and inclusion for all
• A strong understanding of the personal, privacy, and security risks involved with current Social Media applications
• Proficiency in standard word processing, spreadsheets and presentation software
• Knowledge of student retention and engagement strategies
• Experience utilizing simulation in delivery of Justice curriculum

Previous Teaching Experience:
Do you have experience in applying theories of adult learning in teaching or training at the post-secondary level including curriculum development and using a variety of techniques and technologies (including Learning Management Systems)? In this role, you will work in a team environment and develop/deliver curriculum using a variety of teaching methodologies which may include lectures, seminars, labs, computer simulation, online learning, blended learning, or other innovative delivery methods.

Your curriculum design and development experience, and commitment to lifelong learning demonstrates your ability to incorporate best practice, innovative trends and emerging issues in the field, as well as your experience successfully designing in both individual and collaborative team environments. You will bring to the table a well-defined understanding and application of a quality assurance process as it relates to post-secondary education.

You have demonstrated cultural awareness combined with the ability to enhance the student experience, proven by creation of a rich learning environment and creative teaching and evaluation methods. You foster student success through the use of effective, consistent and timely feedback underpinned with a competency and outcomes based approach to achievement.

You have demonstrated teaching excellence with ensuring inclusion of diverse learners and have demonstrated your ability to create a learning environment which motivates and engages all learners. In this role, previous experience in teaching/supporting English as a Second Language students is considered an asset.

This role requires the incumbent to demonstrate accountability and responsiveness to students, colleagues and the community. Additionally, your experience illustrates your self-motivation, superior communication and interpersonal skills, critical thinking and problem solving, as well as proficiency in a variety of current computer applications.
